Toyota Demonstrates Ingenuity in America's Rally Series
This past May, at the Monster Energy Supercross Championship finale in
Las Vegas, Nevada, Toyota showcased the brand new RAV4 rally car. This
entry is a modified version of the 2015 Toyota RAV4 LE.
What's unique about the unibody-constructed RAV4 is how it will be utilized within
a professional racing series. Typically, rally cars are based upon manufactured
hatchbacks, but Toyota is shaking the racing industry up by going with a SUV
inspired vehicle. The lighter and leaner design will undoubtedly become quite
alluring for off-road drivers as it will be immensely effective in handling all
outdoor racing expeditions.
Son of off-road legend Rod Millen and the winner of the 2014 Baja 1000, Ryan
Millen will be in the RAV4 driver's seat in various rally races including several
events associated with the 2015 Rally America 2WD-Open Class season. Ryan
is also a Longo Toyota guest. (Thanks Ryan!)
"I've driven just about everything Toyota has to offer," said Millen. "And I've been
very impressed with the RAV4's tight, compact body and smooth handling. I'm
looking forward to putting it through the paces this season." This won't be Ryan's
first time behind a Toyota vehicle either. As previously stated above, Ryan took
home the top prize at last year's Baja 1000 in a Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. With
Ryan back at the helm for Toyota's RAV4, all eyes will be on car and driver
throughout the Rally America West Series.
