Design and Performance

The completely redesigned Highlander is available in five trims and two powertrains. The new body is more aerodynamic with angular styling to enhance stability and lessen wind noise. The L, LE, and XLE grades incorporate black front grilles with silver trim and standard 18-inch alloy wheels, while a chrome-trimmed grille accents the Limited and Platinum trims with new optional 20-inch wheels. The base engine is a 295-hp 3.5-liter V6 coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drivetrain, with optional all-wheel drive. This gas engine will have a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds and will achieve an estimated 22 mpg combined. A hybrid powertrain will be available which incorporates a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors to make 240 total system horsepower and earn an estimated 34 mpg combined; a 17% improvement over the previous generation.  A new Multi-Terrain Select system will be available with mud and sand, and rock and dirt modes to help maximize traction on rugged terrain.

Almost two inches larger than the previous model, a standard 8.0-inch multimedia touchscreen will be featured with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, Amazon Alexa integration, SiriusXM® satellite radio, driving directions and traffic updates from Waze, and proximity key entry. Optional features will consist of a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, a head-up display, navigation, and an eleven-speaker JBL® premium sound system.

Comfort and Convenience

Fabric upholstery, 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40-split fold-flat third-row seats, and a three-zone automatic climate control system are standard. The new design adds over two inches to the cargo area to provide 73.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the first row or 16.1 cubic feet with all of the seats in use. Available are perforated leather-trimmed seats, second-row captain’s chairs, 10-way power- driver’s and 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, ambient lighting, a panoramic moonroof, and hands-free power liftgate.
