How Long do Brakes Last on Toyotas?

How Long Do Brake Pads Last?

A well-maintained braking system is critical to keep you, your fellow passengers, and other motorists on the road safe. Brake pads wear down over time and typically need replacing after two or three years of driving. If you fail to replace them in time, you can cause damage to other components and risk an accident due to poor braking performance. Here at Longo Toyota, our professional service team handles brake maintenance jobs daily. We've put together a guide based on some of the most common questions we get asked about brakes. What Are Brake Pads? Brake pads are usually made from organic or ceramic material. When you hit the brake pedal, they squeeze against your vehicle's brake discs to bring your car to a swift stop. Vehicles using drum brakes have a slightly different braking mechanism, and the pads are known as brake shoes. Whether your Toyota has brake pads or shoes, they'll wear down over time and require replacing. How Can You Tell When Brake Pads Need Replacing? Most modern brake pads have a built-in mechanism to alert you when it's time to replace them. It consists of a thin metal strip located inside the pad. When the pad wears down to a certain point, the thin metal strip is exposed to the brake disc, causing a squealing sound when you hit the brakes. Your pads will still be thick enough to work for a short while afterward, giving you adequate time to book a service appointment. Keep in mind that there may be other reasons why your brakes are squeaking. For instance, brakes often squeal after a rainstorm due to moisture. If they only squeal two or three times, you don't need to worry about the condition of your pads. If you miss or ignore the built-in warning sound, you may hear a grinding or growling sound when you brake. This sound suggests that the metal backing plates are scraping directly against the brake disc. In this case, urgent action is needed to prevent severe damage to brake components that can be quite expensive to replace. Other symptoms of worn brake pads could be if your vehicle pulls to one side when you brake. You may also notice that your vehicle takes longer than usual to come to a stop. An alternative to looking out for these warning signs is to inspect the thickness of your brake pads regularly. This task can take some time since you may need to remove your vehicle's wheels. You can then look down to see the brake pad in the caliper. If it's less than a quarter-inch thick, it's time to make an appointment to get replacement pads fitted. When Do Brake Pads Need Replacing? Brake pads usually last anywhere from two to three years, and your driving habits can greatly impact their life span. For example, some drivers accelerate unnecessarily and slam on their brakes when they reach a red light or get caught in traffic. These habits will result in your pads suffering considerable wear and tear. They're much more likely to last longer if you drive at a modest speed on city roads, meaning you can use your brakes more sparingly when you need to come to a stop. The life span can also be affected by the type of material the pads are made from or the type of vehicle you drive. For instance, high-performance sports brake pads are designed to cope with high speeds better than standard brake pads, so they should wear and tear less rapidly. What Other Brake Components Require Maintenance? In addition to your brake pads, your rotors will eventually require replacing. These components tend to last longer. Their life span ranges from 50,000 to 70,000 miles, approximately four to six years for the average driver. How well you look after your pads will affect the life span of your rotors since poorly maintained brake pads can damage them. When you hit the brake pedal, fluid travels through your brake cables to apply the necessary pressure to bring your Toyota to a stop. Over time, the fluid can get contaminated due to wearing parts or debris from an external source. Your cables can also become damaged or blocked by air. To guard against these problems, your fluid should be flushed occasionally during a regular maintenance check-up, and your cables should be inspected. The most effective way to keep on top of any problems with your brakes is to have your braking system regularly inspected by a service professional. We can do that for you here at Longo Toyota as part of our multipoint inspection. These inspections allow us to look at the most important parts of your car during each maintenance visit to ensure they're in good working order. How Should I Choose Replacement Brake Pads? You can get a recommendation for the best brake pads for your Toyota by consulting your owner's manual. The recommendation may be the same original equipment manufacturer (OEM) brake pads originally put into the vehicle in the factory. If you can't find your owner's manual, one of our Toyota experts can advise you which brake pads to buy from our well-stocked parts department. If you drive a large vehicle, such as a Tundra pickup, you may require heavy-duty brake pads. Sports car drivers may prefer high-performance brake pads, while most crossovers, such as the Highlander or RAV4, can manage just fine with a standard-designed brake pad. Electric Vehicle Plugged In

Can Electric Cars be Plugged In Anywhere?

Here in the El Monte area and all across California, electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more and more popular. If you're considering purchasing an EV, it's a good idea to understand in advance where and how to charge it. If this is your first EV, you might be used to filling up at the pump, so the possible convenience of charging at home could be an exciting new experience. Read on to learn more about the different types of EV chargers and connectors and how you might be able to charge your EV at home. How Does EV Charging Work? There are three EV charging methods: Level 1, Level 2, and direct current (DC) fast charging. Level 1 Charging Level 1 charging is the simplest and slowest method of charging an EV. With Level 1 charging, approximately 3 to 5 miles of range are added per hour of charging. More than a day would typically be needed to fully charge an EV's battery with Level 1 charging. Any EV can be plugged into a standard 120-volt wall outlet for Level 1 charging; you do not need any additional equipment. Level 2 Charging Compared with Level 1 charging, Level 2 charging is much faster. With Level 2 charging, approximately 20 to 25 or more miles of range are added per hour of charging. An overnight charge is usually sufficient to fully charge an EV's battery with Level 2 charging. Level 2 charging requires having an electrician install a particular charging station with a dedicated 240-volt electrical circuit. All EVs can use Level 2 chargers. These types of charging stations may be found in public areas or in some homes. DC Fast Charging Although you might sometimes hear DC fast charging referred to as Level 3 charging, that name is not technically correct. DC fast charging is the quickest method of EV charging available. This method requires a 480-volt connection, and not every EV can use DC fast charging. These types of charging stations may be found in some public areas. Approximately 10 miles of range are added per minute of charging. A 20- to 60-minute charge would be sufficient to charge a typical EV's battery to roughly 80 percent capacity. Charging Curve When you plug in an EV to charge the battery, you might notice that the battery quickly gains charge until it is about 80 percent full. After this time, the charging rate slows down. This variation of speed at which the battery charges is called the “charging curve.” The curve differs from one EV to another and can change depending on battery temperature or weather conditions. It can be helpful to keep the charging curve in mind if you're charging your vehicle in the middle of a road trip or in a public station where others are waiting. Connectors There are several types of EV connectors. The type of connector your vehicle has may determine which charging stations you can use. SAE J1772: This connector typically comes standard with your vehicle and is the most common type of connector in use. The SAE J1772 connector can use Level 1 and Level 2 chargers. SAE Combined Charging System (CCS) or J1772 CCS Combo: This connector allows the EV to plug into a DC fast charging system. CHAdeMO: This connector is found in many Nissan and Mitsubishi vehicles and is also used for DC fast charging, similar to the CCS connector. Tesla Connector: The Tesla connector is only used in Tesla vehicles for Level 1, Level 2, and DC fast chargers. Can EVs Be Plugged In Anywhere? EVs can be charged in many places, including homes, workplaces, and public areas. However, certain types of charging stations might be limited to specific locations. Charging at Home A standard 120-volt wall socket is sufficient for Level 1 charging. This means that you can charge your EV at any home. Because Level 1 charging is the slowest method, you might also choose to install a 240-volt line at home for Level 2 charging. If you charge your EV at home, the price of the electricity used should appear on the homeowner's electricity bill. This means that you may want to consider charging during off-peak times if your electric company offers discounted rates. Charging at Work Your workplace may offer Level 2 EV charging stations for employees. If this is the case, leaving your vehicle to charge during your working hours may be convenient. Charging in Public and on the Road Public EV charging stations, often Level 2, may be found where people are likely to park cars, such as parking garages and lots. DC fast charging may also be available. Depending on the charging station, there may be a fee to charge your vehicle, or it might be free to use. If you're driving in a new place or taking a long trip, it's a good idea to determine where you can charge your EV on the go. Is At-Home Equipment Compatible With Charging Electric Cars? Yes, at-home equipment is compatible with charging electric cars. The charging speed will depend on whether Level 1 or Level 2 charging is used. Because a standard wall outlet is sufficient for Level 1 charging, no additional equipment is needed to use Level 1 charging at home. If you want to use Level 2 charging at home, a Level 2 charger needs to be installed by an electrician. This will require a 240-volt outlet. DC fast charging is not available in homes. 2023 Toyota Prius Prime Overview

2023 Toyota Prius Prime: Buyer's Guide

The Toyota Prius is one of the most well-known hybrid vehicles on the market and for good reason. That's because for many years, Toyota has been producing one of the best hybrid vehicles available, despite more manufacturers getting into the game. For 2023, though, Toyota decided to take things even further. The result is the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime, which is one of the best vehicles ever made by Toyota and a significant upgrade over previous years' models. If you're interested in the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime, we've highlighted some of its top features and the benefits of choosing this excellent hybrid sedan. Our Longo Toyota team will be ready to answer any questions and get you set up for a test drive once you're ready. Trims and Starting MSRPs With the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime, there are three trim levels available. The trim you select determines which premium features you get along with the final cost. For example, upgrading from the SE model to the XSE gives you features like keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and heated front seats. Moving up to the top-of-the-line XSE Premium adds an eight-speaker JBL Premium Audio system, heated and ventilated front seats, and standard Digital Key capability. Here are the available trims and their respective starting MSRPs: SE: $32,350. XSE: $35,600. XSE Premium: $39,170. Exterior Styling For 2023, the Toyota Prius Prime features an entirely new exterior design, which is a significant improvement over previous models. This new model is lower and longer than before, which is amplified by its more aerodynamic design. With these new changes, you'll have a hard time telling the difference between a 2023 Toyota Prius Prime and the latest sports car. Best of all, there are plenty of color options available. Choose from great options like Wind Chill Pearl, Guardian Gray, Cutting Edge, Midnight Black Metallic, Reservoir Blue, and Supersonic Red. Interior Space Moving inside the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime, you'll instantly appreciate its sophisticated and modern design. This comes from such features as its wraparound dashboard, a digital gauge cluster mounted in front of the driver, comfortable seats, and premium materials throughout the cabin. The new Prius Prime is also very spacious, with plenty of legroom and headroom for even taller passengers. Finally, the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime offers a decent amount of cargo space, with 20.3 cubic feet in the rear. This should be more than enough for your typical weekday errands or weekend getaways. Power and Performance Under the hood of the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime, you'll find a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which replaces the smaller 1.8-liter engine found in older models. This engine delivers 150 horsepower, which by itself would be enough for most drivers. However, in the Prius Prime, there are also two electric motors. One powers the drive wheels, while the other powers a planetary gear set, mimicking a belt-driven continuously variable automatic transmission. All this means is that now instead of the 150 horsepower provided by the engine, you'll get 220 total horsepower. This is more horsepower than other base models, such as the Honda Civic SI or the Mazda 3. Also inside the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime is a lithium-ion battery pack. With this battery pack, you can expect to drive up to 44 miles on electric power alone without using any gas. For 2023, Toyota also made it easier to charge this battery, with optional solar panels mounted to the roof for the XSE Premium. These solar panels power your accessories and keep the battery charged while your vehicle sits in the sun. In terms of fuel efficiency, when both the engine and electric motors are in use, expect the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime to get up to 53 mpg in the city and up to 51 mph on the highway. Advanced Technology The 2023 Toyota Prius Prime also makes use of the latest technology advancements. This starts with the 8-inch infotainment screen in the center of the dashboard, or a 12.3-inch touchscreen standard on the XSE Premium and optional for the XSE. This touch-screen device makes it easy to control your preferred media sources along with other vehicle settings and features. It comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integrations, making it simple to connect your smartphone to your Prius. You also get several USB-C ports for charging your devices. As for safety features, all three 2023 Prius Prime trims come with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. Some of the standard features you'll get with this safety suite include: Pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. Lane departure alert with steering assist. Dynamic radar cruise control. Lane tracing assist. Automatic high beams. Road sign assist. Proactive driving assist. There are also optional safety features available, such as a panoramic view monitor and front and rear parking assist with automatic braking. With all of these available safety features, you'll have peace of mind knowing you're protected while on the road. Is the 2023 Toyota Prius Prime Right for You? Toyota Tundra TRD

What's the Difference Between TRD and GR?

For those plugged into the world of motorsports, Toyota has long been an exhilarating manufacturer to watch both on the track and in off-road races. But the average car consumer likely isn't aware of Toyota's long history of racing and performance development. This history is hidden behind familiar brands, such as Toyota Racing Development (TRD) and the more recently introduced Gazoo Racing (GR). That's why we've decided to use this post to uncover the history of Toyota motorsports through the TRD and GR brands while also explaining their contemporary distinctions and Toyota's plans for both companies. History of Toyota Racing Development The origins of Toyota Racing Development reach back to the mid-twentieth century when Toyota was the first Japanese company to enter the racing world through its motorsports division, Toyota Sports Corner (TOSCO). It took a while for Toyota to capture the world's attention as a high-performance sports car manufacturer with racing chops, but when they teamed up with Yamaha in the mid-1960s to debut the 2000GT, the world's collective jaw dropped. In 1966, the 2000GT set no less than thirteen International Automobile Federation records for speed and endurance. Toyota had earned their racing stripes. After another decade of racing triumphs, in 1976 TOSCO rebranded itself, becoming Toyota Racing Development (TRD). Beginning as a parts importer in the U.S., TRD quickly shifted its role toward performance tuning for on-track and street-legal Toyota cars. In the 1980s and 1990s, TRD helped Toyota develop beloved speedsters, such as the 1994 TRD3000GT (a modded version of the BLITZ Racing Team's 1994 Supra GT500) and the preeminent King of Drift, the AE86. Across the globe, TRD continued to assist Toyota in developing racing cars throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, and in North America specifically, TRD helped Toyota break into the world of off-road truck racing. Driven by the legendary Ivan “Ironman” Stewart, Toyota's T100 truck took home multiple Baja 1000 racing titles in the 1990s, helping to establish Toyota's long-standing reputation for designing superior off-road pickups. Nowadays, consumers in the North American market will most likely recognize the TRD brand through its badging on Toyota's off-road favorites, such as the Tacoma and the 4Runner. History of Gazoo Racing While TRD was born out of a rebranding effort, Toyota's Gazoo Racing developed out of a bond between Toyota's esteemed master driver, Hiromu Naruse, and his apprentice, Akio Toyoda. (No, the name isn't a coincidence; Toyoda is the grandson of Toyota Motors founder, Kiichiro Toyoda, and is the company's current CEO). In 2001, shortly after joining Toyota's board of directors, Toyoda met Naruse, who offered to teach Toyoda how to drive on one of the most dangerous tracks in the world, the Nürburgring in Germany. Toyoda agreed, and a consequential friendship, bonded by endurance racing, developed. Over several years, Naruse taught Toyoda how to master the punishing corners and terrifying jumps of the Nürburgring in used Supras (the company had discontinued the beloved model in 2002). And in 2007, Naruse and Toyoda formed a racing team of Toyota employees. Their goal wasn't necessarily to win races but rather to learn from their racing experience how they could make better cars. This goal inspired them to compete in the Nürburgring's 24-hour endurance race. But because the team wasn't officially backed by Toyota Motors, they opted to race under Toyota's marketing and internet brand, Gazoo.com. Thus, Gazoo Racing (GR) was introduced to the world. Though they didn't come anywhere near winning their first 24-hour endurance race, GR dedicated themselves to learning from these high-performance, arduous races to improve their vehicles. And shortly after debuting at Nürburgring, they caught the attention of engineers at Lexus, who loaned the team prototypes of the LFA to race. In 2010, GR won the 24-hour endurance race, coming in ahead of BMWs, Porsches, and Aston Martins. It didn't take long for GR's success to be noticed by Toyota executives. And after Toyoda himself became president of the company in 2009, he urged the company to make more exciting cars and established sports conversion brands GRMN (Gazoo Racing, tuned by the Meister of the Nürburgring) and G Sports. In 2019, Toyota began producing GR brand-exclusive vehicles with the GR Supra and over the years has added the GR Yaris, GR 86, and GR Corolla to their lineup. Differences Between TRD and GR Both TRD and GR have earned their respective sports car racing chops. Racing teams backed by both performance brands have won numerous championships, including the World Rally Championship, NASCAR, Le Mans, and the World Endurance Championship. In terms of vehicle production, most U.S. consumers are familiar with TRD trims on Toyota's off-road capable vehicles. GR, however, is likely a less familiar brand to North American car buyers. While Toyota has been releasing GR versions of their vehicles in Japan for several years, including the Mark X GRMN and the GR Yaris, these models haven't yet made it to the U.S. However, in 2020, Toyota introduced the GR Supra to the North American market to widespread acclaim. Today, U.S. car buyers can hit the road in a GR Supra, GR 86, or GR Corolla. So, if TRD and GR are both Toyota performance brands with a history of racing championships, then what's the difference between them? Toyota has acknowledged the potential for overlap in their two performance brands but has also expressed an interest in making room for both. As it stands now, Toyota envisions GR as their global performance brand, focusing on producing track-trained, fun-to-drive versions of Toyota cars. TRD, on the other hand, will continue to be a mainstay of Toyota's off-road pickup and SUV production. This distinction makes sense, considering the fairly unique popularity of pickup trucks in the U.S. as opposed to the global automotive market, as well as the long-standing reputation of TRD on popular models, such as the Tacoma and the 4Runner. Now that you know the differences between TRD and GR, you might be curious to check out some of these vehicles and see the differences for yourself. At Longo Toyota in El Monte, California, we've got hundreds of new and used Toyotas in stock, including GR and TRD models. Before we begin, remember that this guide isn't a substitute for a proper towing course. When determining the towing capacity of your 2023 Toyota RAV4, visit a local weighbridge to ensure all measurements are correct. Change to Toyota.com as reference Why Is It Important To Know The Towing Capacity of Your 2023 Toyota RAV4? The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is a popular SUV that offers the best of both worlds. It provides a higher engine capacity than sedans without compromising your mpg and maneuverability. While the Toyota RAV4 is made for robust performance, and you can attach a trailer to it for your towing needs, it still has limits. Knowing the towing capacity of your Toyota helps you stay safe on the roads and avoid legal troubles. Too much weight can cause the trailer to swing out of control and pull your vehicle off the road. Overloading your Toyota RAV4 beyond the recommended capacity accelerates wear and tear and might cause your brake discs and pads to get worn out, leading to major accidents. Furthermore, it's against the law to load over the permitted capacity. Shop Our Inventory of New Toyota RAV4 What's the Maximum Towing Capacity of a 2023 Toyota RAV4? The towing capacity is the maximum weight a vehicle can pull safely, and it varies depending on factors such as engine, drivetrain, suspension, transmission, and driving conditions. The earlier Toyota RAV4 models had a limited towing capacity of just 1,500 pounds. In 2019, Toyota redesigned the engine and increased its ability to handle heavier loads. The 2023 Toyota RAV4 has a similar towing capacity to the 2022 models and ranges from 1,500 to 3,500 pounds, depending on the specific model and trim levels. Here's a quick chart of the towing capacities of the 2023 Toyota RAV4 for each model. 2023 Toyota RAV4 Model Maximum Towing Capacity (lbs) LE 1,500 XLE 1,500 XLE Premium 1,500 Adventure 3,500 TRD Off-road 3,500 Limited 1,500 Hybrid LE 1,750 Hybrid XLE 1,750 Hybrid Woodland Edition 1750 Hybrid XLE Premium 1,750 Hybrid SE 1,750 Hybrid XSE 1,750 Hybrid Limited 1,750 Prime SE 2,500 Prime XSE 2,500 What Can You Tow With the Different 2023 Toyota RAV4 Models? Let's look at the towing capacity and other specifications of the various 2023 Toyota RAV4 models. LE The LE, a front-wheel drive model, has a seating capacity of five, a curb weight of 3,380 pounds, and a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds. This means you can tow light loads such as a snowmobile, Jet Ski, small rowboat, a couple of canoes, or a motorcycle on a simple single-axle trailer. You might also be able to tow lightweight camping trailers that weigh less than 1,500 pounds. The LE has a 2.5L four-cylinder engine and a direct shift with eight-speed automatic transmission. XLE and XLE Premium The XLE has a slightly higher curb weight of 3,450 pounds and has a few additional features, such as a power tilt, moonroof, and SofTex-trimmed seats. These models have a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 pounds, the same as the LE and can handle similar loads as mentioned above. Adventure and TRD Off-Road These models have the highest towing capacities of all 2023 Toyota RAV4s. If you're looking for a RAV4 to pull heavy loads efficiently, you can choose the Adventure or TRD Off-Road models. This trim has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, which means you can tow heavy loads such as two motorcycles, a fiberglass fishing boat, a 20-foot aluminum fishing boat, two ATVs, a small camper trailer, a utility trailer, a teardrop trailer, a popup trailer, Jet Skis, snowmobiles, a tow dolly with a small vehicle, or similar items. Limited The Limited model has a curb weight of 3,510 pounds and additional features such as a power moonroof, leather-trimmed seats, and a premium audio system. With a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds, it can tow weights similar to those mentioned under the LE model. Prime SE and Prime XSE These trims have curb weights of 4,235 and 4,300 pounds, respectively. With a seating capacity of five, these models have a maximum towing capacity of 2,500 pounds. Slightly lower capacity than the Adventure and TRD Off-Road models, the Prime SE and XSE have enough power to handle regular tow loads. Towing Guidelines for Your 2023 Toyota RAV4 Here are a few safety measures to follow before you hitch a trailer to your 2023 Toyota RAV4: Ensure compatibility of vehicle and trailer: Not all trailers can be hooked to your RAV4. Ensure you use the right equipment to attach the trailer to avoid accidents. Refer to your owners manual: Read your owners manual for instructions and guidelines before using your 2023 Toyota RAV4 for towing. Ensure you don't exceed the weight ratings and capacities mentioned in it. Stay below the maximum towing capacity: The maximum towing weight depends on your vehicle's base curb weight plus other features, including cargo weight, number and weight of passengers, and other equipment. It's always a good idea to load slightly below the maximum capacity so you don't push your RAV4 to its limits. Purchase a hitch kit: Toyota doesn't offer an official hitch kit for recent RAV4 models, including the 2023 one. You can purchase a hitch kit online or at a parts store to attach a trailer to the tow vehicle. Ensure you buy high-quality equipment and accessories to hitch the trailer to your RAV4 securely. Stay Within Your 2023 Toyota RAV4's Towing Capacity The good news is that all models of the 2023 Toyota RAV4 have some towing ability and can handle lighter loads. If you want to tow heavy equipment, the Adventure and TRD Off-Road models are the better choices, as they can tow loads up to 3,500 pounds. However, the RAV4 isn't designed to handle large loads such as a full-size camper or RV. If you require higher towing capabilities, shop online for other Toyota models Such as the Tundra, Tacoma, Highlander, and 4Runner. If you have further questions about your 2023 Toyota RAV4's towing capacity, contact our vehicle experts at Longo Toyota. A Blue Toyota RAV4 by Stephen Andrews is licensed with Pexels License

2023 Toyota Prius

How to Make Your Prius Last Forever

If you're looking for a fuel-efficient car with plenty of cargo capacity, the Toyota Prius could be just right for you. This hybrid hatchback can seat up to five and has solid powertrain options. One thing owners of Prius or other hybrid cars often want to know is how they can maintain and lengthen the life of their battery. Batteries are very expensive to replace, so any steps you can take to make yours last longer are likely to help you save money. Take a look at the tips put together by our hybrid experts here at Longo Toyota in El Monte, California. Toyota Prius Battery and Powertrain Depending on the model year of the Prius you own, you could have various powertrain configurations. The all-new 2023 model features a front-wheel-drive version with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a single motor that puts out 194 horsepower. The all-wheel-drive option adds a second motor and cranks out 196 horsepower. Prior to the redesign, Prius models from the 2022 year and earlier put out 121 horsepower from their powertrains. The battery and electric motors help make the Prius obtain very strong gas mileage. Vehicles from the 2022 model year and earlier achieve an estimated 58 mpg on city roads and 53 mpg on the highway. The newer 2023 edition gets 57 mpg and 56 mpg, respectively. To achieve these best fuel economy numbers and keep your powertrain performing well, your battery needs to be in good condition. These are the main tips to help you accomplish this goal. Clean Your Battery's Cooling System One of the most important parts of your battery pack to maintain is its cooling fan. The cooling system works to keep your battery at the right temperature for it to perform. The battery in the Prius should operate at a temperature no higher than 110 degrees Fahrenheit. When it gets hotter than this limit, battery deterioration can take place more rapidly. Provided your cooling fan is properly cleaned, it'll keep the Prius’ 28 battery modules below this limit. Your cooling fan may need cleaning every two or three years. Over time, it picks up dirt and dust from surrounding components or external sources. You may also find that dirt or pet hair from the cabin can get into the cooling fan. The fan can be thoroughly cleaned at an auto dealership for the best results, including at our service center in El Monte. Get the Battery Inspected It's well worth having the battery in your Prius regularly inspected, such as once a year. Inspections can identify early signs of developing problems, allowing you to replace your battery before it dies or take maintenance measures to prolong its working life. One of our professional hybrid vehicle experts can quickly examine your battery and related hybrid components and provide you with a cost estimate for any additional work that may be required. If the inspection identifies any problems with your battery, you may be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. The battery has a 10-year, 155,000-mile warranty, whichever comes first. Prius batteries can last longer than this, sometimes as long as 200,000 miles. Replace the Air Filter Your cabin's air filter isn't just important for ensuring that clean and cool air circulates throughout your cabin. It also regulates airflow to the battery. So, if you notice that your air filter is failing to make your cabin as fresh as it used to be when you first bought your car, chances are that your hybrid battery is working at a higher temperature due to poor airflow. You can resolve this problem by replacing your cabin filter every year or 15,000 miles of driving. The filter gets contaminated in much the same way as your battery's cooling fan. It picks up dirt and debris from parts as they wear down, as well as from external sources. When the filter clogs up, airflow throughout the cabin is significantly hampered. Once you install a new filter, you should find that the temperature of your battery and in the cabin will drop to a more comfortable level. Hybrid Vehicle Maintenance at Longo Toyota in El Monte If you're looking for vehicle maintenance specialists who know how to handle batteries and other hybrid components, Longo Toyota should be your first stop in El Monte. Our Toyota-certified auto technicians can perform battery inspections, clean your cooling fan, and perform other important tasks. Thanks to our well-stocked parts department, we can source replacement air filters and even batteries when the time comes. While you're visiting our service center, there are several additional important maintenance tasks you should attend to so that your Prius remains in top condition. For example, your engine oil should be changed every six months or so to make sure that wear and tear is kept to a minimum. Old engine oil can cause unnecessary deterioration to your engine's components, which can require extensive repair work. You should also get your tires rotated to help avoid uneven treadwear. Before you visit our El Monte service center, don't forget to check out our service specials. These incentives aim to make it affordable to keep your Prius up to date on its maintenance. We change our specials from time to time, so don't forget to check back before each visit to see what you could save money on this time. We hope you now see how easy it can be to get the most out of your Prius’ battery. By sticking to a routine maintenance schedule, including regularly cleaning the cooling fan and changing your air filter, you can increase your chances of your battery having a long working life. If you have any further questions or require assistance, don't hesitate to contact us today. Our service team members are standing by to take your call or chat with you in person at our Toyota dealership. We're looking forward to welcoming you, whether you're a new or regular customer.

2023 Toyota BZ4X Charging

2023 Toyota BZ4X Range and Charging Time

Toyota has brought out a new all-electric compact crossover that's affordable and offers plenty of capabilities for day-to-day driving. The 2023 Toyota BZ4X is a great choice if you need a vehicle that's equally at home maneuvering around busy city roads as it is whizzing along at highway speeds. Two of the things most electric vehicle (EV) buyers want to know about are the battery's driving range and its charging time. We've taken a look at both of these areas, as well as some of the other key features you'll find in the BZ4X. Contact us to learn more or arrange a test drive at our dealership in El Monte, California. BZ4X Engine and Performance There are two powertrain setups on offer in the BZ4X. If you're an EV driver who spends most of your time in the city, you'll probably find the front-wheel-drive setup more than adequate for your needs. It puts out 201 horsepower with a single motor and a battery pack. Those of you who prefer a little more power for highway driving or challenging weather conditions should look to the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version of the BZ4X. Toyota equips these vehicles with a second motor, boosting the output to 214 horsepower. The BZ4X features regenerative braking, which makes your crossover even more efficient. When you brake, the power produced by the motor is stored for future use, which helps to lengthen your battery's life. There are also several driving modes to help you cope with different conditions, including Normal, Eco, Snow, and Boost. The battery is equipped with an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty, whichever comes first. However, EV batteries will typically last longer than this, as long as you stick to the recommended maintenance. Toyota BZ4X Battery Range and Charging If you want a BZ4X with the best driving range, you should pick one of the front-wheel-drive (FWD) models. An FWD BZ4X can achieve up to 252 miles on a full battery charge compared to a maximum of 228 miles for AWD. There are slight variations in the driving range depending on the trim level you choose. For instance, the XLE trim has slightly better numbers at 252 miles for FWD and 228 miles for AWD compared to the Limited trim's 242 miles and 222 miles, respectively. When it comes to charging your BZ4X, you can get a full charge using a Level 2 charger in about nine hours. Level 2 chargers are also known as 240-volt outlets, and you can install them at your home or find them at public charging sites. A Level 1 charger, which is a standard household power outlet, will take a little over 30 hours to charge your battery. This isn't a practical option for most people unless you don't use your BZ4X over the weekend. If you use a DC fast charger, you can add an 80% charge in as little as 20 minutes. BZ4X Interior Features Inside the cabin, the BZ4X provides space for five passengers. Both rows offer enough legroom to accommodate adult passengers on long or short drives. There's also equipment in the rear row to let you install booster seats. If you feel like you'd prefer more headroom or legroom in the second row, you may want to check out the RAV4, an EV with slightly larger dimensions in the cabin than the BZ4X. The BZ4X has a comfortable and upscale cabin in its base trim. You can add some luxury features to make your time in this crossover even more enjoyable, including a heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, and low-level ambient lighting. The availability of these upgrades will depend on the trim you choose. Behind the second row, the BZ4X's cargo area measures just over 38 cubic feet. This should provide your family with enough space for several bags for a weekend trip out of town. It's also more than enough room for a large load of groceries. In case you need to shift bulkier items, you can fold down the second row to open up 56.1 cubic feet of space. BZ4X Infotainment and Safety Tech This Toyota's infotainment system is impressive, offering a large 12.3-inch touch screen and six-speaker stereo in its base setup. You also get a range of connectivity options, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and five USB ports. Wireless device charging also comes standard, meaning you can keep your phone or other electronic devices fully charged while you're on the go. The only optional upgrade is a premium nine-speaker stereo to improve the audio when you're listening to your favorite music or podcasts. A long list of safety features is also included in the base BZ4X. You'll benefit from pre-collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic brake assist. When you're driving on the highway, you'll be supported by the lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, and lane trace-assist features. The automatic high-beam headlights help ensure good visibility in all weather conditions, while traction control can help you tackle difficult conditions on- or off-road. You can add a surround-view parking camera for additional assistance when you're maneuvering into a tight spot. Pricing and Trims for the Toyota BZ4X You can choose from two trims in the BZ4X: XLE and Limited. The XLE trim has an MSRP of $42,000 and is the one to go for if you want the best driving range. For a few extra upgrades, the Limited trim is worth considering. It benefits from a heated steering wheel, a parking camera, ambient interior lighting, and a power liftgate. One of the upgrade packages available in the Limited trim adds heated rear seats and a foot and leg warmer for front-seat passengers. As you can see, the Toyota BZ4X is a great choice if you're looking for an affordable EV with a good driving range. Its base setup offers plenty of upscale features for most drivers, but you can add some additional luxuries if you prefer. If you'd like to arrange to test-drive a BZ4X in El Monte, California, one of our sales team members would be happy to help. Feel free to contact us today here at Longo Toyota to find out more or get the purchase process started. Alternatively, you can browse our selection of BZ4X crossovers in our online inventory.

2023 Toyota Mirai

How Does the 2023 Toyota Mirai Work, & How Do I Fill It Up?

The hydrogen fuel-cell Mirai is a luxurious but practical rear-wheel-drive five-passenger sedan. Most people aren't as familiar with the 2023 Toyota Mirai as some of the other electric cars on the market. However, due to its lower-than-average price compared with many electric vehicles (EVs), depending on your location and driving needs, a hydrogen-cell car might be more practical. This cutting-edge Mirai shines a light on a future after fossil fuels. Toyota naturally wants to be a leader in this field, just as it has been in hydrogen and plug-in hybrid EV technology. Here's all the information you need to know about the Toyota Mirai's capabilities, including how to fill up the fuel-cell tank. How Does the 2023 Mirai Battery Work? 2023 Toyota Mirai The Mirai safely stores hydrogen molecules inside a tank, where it interacts with oxygen a little bit at a time to produce power. The 2023 Mirai XLE and 2023 Mirai Limited both have remarkable manufacturer-estimated driving ranges of 402 miles and 357 miles, respectively, thanks to many advancements in hydrogen power. The tanks are also reinforced with carbon fiber for long-term fuel storage and stability. Whether navigating metropolitan streets or winding down country roads, the dynamic rear-wheel-drive chassis of this hydrogen fuel cell EV constantly produces an exhilarating ride. The rear wheels are propelled by a motor that generates 182 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. Using such figures, a zero to 60 mph sprint would take 7.4 seconds, which is good for most city drivers. With the XLE trim, the estimated city/highway/combined mileage is 76/71/74 mpg equivalent (MPGe), respectively, whereas for the Limited trim, it's 67/64/65 MPGe. Does the Mirai Produce Electricity? Yes, the Toyota Mirai has what's known as a fuel-cell electric powertrain, which means that the onboard fuel cell generates electricity from hydrogen. As the smallest element, hydrogen easily compacts into the storage cells, remaining in a usable gas form at relatively low pressure. Fuel cells use hydrogen atoms' electrons to generate electricity when they react with oxygen, creating a small amount of water as a byproduct. How Do I Fill Up a Mirai? Similar to a gas station pump, a hydrogen fuel pump will have a nozzle you can bring to the vehicle's loading port. The hydrogen is pumped in and then moved to the carbon fiber-reinforced tanks. Overall, the Toyota Mirai charges at a similar rate to fast charging an EV. Considering the substantial tank sizes of both trim levels, you'll likely only need a minute to fill up. At the most, you'll go from near empty to full in about five minutes. As it handles just like an EV but with faster refueling, a higher maximum range, and a lower price, it's easy to see why people snatch up a Mirai when they get the chance. How Secure Is Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Technology? Toyota has invested a lot of time testing hydrogen-powered vehicles in tough situations to ensure they're as reliable as the rest of the lineup. Hydrogen is a common gas with no known pollutant effects. After thorough testing, Toyota determined that the hydrogen fuel tanks used by Mirai complied with GTR No. 13. This United Nations document regulates the safety requirements for fuel-cell and other hydrogen-based vehicles. The Mirai's patented tanks are lined with polymers and covered in carbon fiber, meaning they absorb five times more crash energy than steel. If the hydrogen detectors spot a leak, or if a collision is detected against the tank, the valves will promptly close to prevent more hydrogen from escaping. Any hydrogen that has already spilled will safely return to the atmosphere as a low-pressure, non-combustible gas. Is the 2023 Mirai Environmentally Friendly? The Japanese word Mirai means “future.” Since the introduction of this new car back in November of 2014, Toyota has stood out as a diverse automaker producing a combination of gasoline, gasoline hybrid, fully electric, and hydrogen automobiles. Rather than relying solely on electric technology, which can still come from fossil fuel consumption, offering a broader range of technologies for automobile power represents a significant development toward energy independence. It'll also produce a more manageable and environmentally friendly world for everyone by lowering harmful emissions. It's also worth noting that, like traditional EVs, cars with hydrogen fuel cells don't produce noise pollution, nor does the process of creating the fuel. These details all add up to a car that's as safe as any gasoline or full EV in the immediate sense and as environmentally sustainable as electric drivetrains, if not more. 2023 Mirai Warranties and Benefits The Mirai also benefits from everything you'd expect in a new Toyota, such as the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ package. This is a complete collection of guidance and safety features such as adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, traffic sign assist, and lane-keep assist. You'll also get an advanced 12.3-inch touch screen, informing you about your Mirai's fuel and condition while easily connecting with your smartphone so you can use apps. The 2023 version of the Mirai also includes a comprehensive owner experience program in addition to the usual Toyota warranties and benefits. For example, the Extended ToyotaCare coverage provides warranty coverage on any Mirai lease for three years or 35,000 miles or on a purchase for three years or 35,000 miles. Take a look at this list of everything you get with a new Mirai: ToyotaCare roadside assistance, trip interruption assistance, and fast towing service, covering purchases or leases up to three years. Dedicated Mirai 24/7 call support for the entire duration of the lease or purchase. Fuel-cell EV warranty covering all fuel-cell electric drivetrain components for eight years or 100,000 miles. Hybrid Battery Warranty of 10 years or 150,000 miles for both leases and purchases. Complimentary emergency rentals for up to 21 total days of use, which lasts for the first three years after lease or purchase. You can even get complimentary hydrogen fuel, which is limited on a lease up to $15,000 or three years compared with up to $15,000 or six years with a purchase. To help understand the full extent of the Tundra's strength, the highest possible and basic towing capacities are listed below: 2023 Tundra 3.4-liter V-6 drivetrain highest towing capacity: 12,000 lbs. 2023 Tundra 3.4-liter V-6 drivetrain starting towing capacity: 8,300 lbs. 2023 Tundra 3.4-liter V-6 hybrid drivetrain highest towing capacity: 11,450 lbs. 2023 Tundra 3.4-liter V-6 hybrid drivetrain starting towing capacity: 10,340 lbs. A 2023 Tundra without the hybrid motor and with the heavier combinations of bed length and cabin style will still be able to handle at least 8,300 lbs. The best tow rating of 12,000 lbs comes from the SR5 trim in rear-wheel drive with the Double Cab and 6.5-foot short bed. 2023 Tundra Payload Capacity by Drivetrain The non-hybrid engine and rear-wheel drive are the best options for those who need a Tundra for towing. The hybrid powerplant is only a few hundred pounds behind — or, in some cases, can be stronger than configurations of the gasoline setup. Also, Double Cabs usually perform better than the bigger CrewMax models. When it comes to payload capacity, it all breaks down in a similar way. Here's a summary of the maximum payload capacity ratings: 2023 Tundra 3.4-liter V-6 drivetrain highest payload capacity: 1,940 lbs. 2023 Tundra 3.4-liter V-6 drivetrain lowest payload capacity: 1,575 lbs. 2023 Tundra 3.4-liter V-6 hybrid drivetrain highest payload capacity: 1,680 lbs. 2023 Tundra 3.4-liter V-6 hybrid drivetrain lowest payload capacity: 1,485 lbs. The maximum possible payload of 1,940 lbs requires the right combination of a non-hybrid Double Cab rear-wheel-drive Tundra. The baseline payload capacity of 1,575 lbs mostly applies to four-wheel-drive CrewMax trucks. The non-hybrid engine and rear-wheel drive bring plenty of power, but you won't be left behind with the other options. The team at Longo Toyota in El Monte, California, is happy to guide you toward a truck with the right amount of power. What Is the Toyota Tundra Tow Package? Only if you purchase the Toyota Tundra tow package can the capacity be increased to its maximum levels. In addition, it adds towing-related driver-aid features that make it simpler and safer. Here's a detailed list of the tow package's features: Tow mirrors. A seven-pin connector for the wiring harness. Class IV hitch receiver. Tow/Haul driving modes. One of several adaptive variable suspension systems, or AVS. Load-leveling and rear height control air suspension. Multi-Terrain Monitor with front, side, and rear perspectives. Multi-Terrain Select, which automatically adjusts throttle and traction to prevent wheelspin. Crawl Control mode, capable of working with Multi-Terrain Select. Downhill assistance control. In most cases, you should be able to transport larger, heavy-duty items people might not be able to tow with weaker trucks, such as mobile homes, fifth-wheel RVs, and even construction machinery, such as cement mixers. With the assistance of this thorough towing equipment package, comfortable heavy-duty towing is even more likely. Towing Tips for Your Toyota Tundra After determining that your new Toyota truck is ready for safe towing, there are some other things worth keeping in mind. To help reduce the risk of encountering any difficulties, follow these recommendations: Practice Towing Both backing up to connect a trailer and going in reverse with one connected can take practice. If possible, you should rehearse maneuvers, such as backing up and using your mirrors with a trailer, in an empty area. Get Brakes and Suspension Checked Your brakes will take on the additional momentum of any added weight on a trailer, so make sure your brakes are in good condition. You'll also want your suspension to be in good shape so that any unexpected bumps or potholes don't lift the trailer tongue. Stay on top of general auto maintenance in all forms with visits to a qualified Toyota service center. Purchase Spare Tires Be sure to check your tires before starting your journey. People frequently overlook the possibility of trailer tires breaking when traveling. Avoid headaches by being ready for emergencies and keeping spares ready. Driving with a trailer can be tricky because of the added length behind your vehicle and reduced visibility. Make sure your trailer's brake and turn signal lights work properly. As you drive, signal your stops, lane changes, and turns earlier than usual. Keep your speed consistent with traffic, avoid sudden stops whenever possible, and maintain a little extra distance than normal between you and the vehicle ahead.
