Introducing the 2025 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid

The Toyota 4Runner has been completely redesigned for the 2025 model year. It’s built on a new platform and offers upgraded powertrains, including a hybrid. Plus, it features a whole new style to mark its redesign. 

What’s New in the 2025 Model?

There’s a lot new with the 2025 4Runner. It now uses Toyota’s TNGA-F platform and offers two four-cylinder powertrains. Toyota added new trim levels to the lineup, including the TRD Sport Premium, Trailhunter, and Platinum models. It’s also received a few tech upgrades, including a larger touch screen and the latest Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 system with Proactive Driving Assist. 

Hybrid Technology in the 2025 Toyota 4Runner

One of the two new powertrains for 2025 is a hybrid setup. The i-Force Max uses a turbo four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to generate a combined 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. 

Fuel Efficiency

2025 Toyota 4Runner hybrid models get an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. It’s no surprise that the hybrid engine performs better in city driving. The electric assistance boosts torque, which helps reduce fuel consumption in stop-and-go situations. However, sustaining this torque at highway speeds consumes more fuel. Overall, the new 2025 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid’s enhanced fuel efficiency ratings make it a great option if you’re looking for an eco-friendly yet capable vehicle. 

Performance, Towing, and Off-Road Capabilities

The i-Force Max hybrid setup works with an eight-speed automatic transmission. While rear-wheel drive is standard on the non-hybrid models, all the hybrids come standard with four-wheel drive (4WD). If you need to tow your gear with the 4Runner, it can pull up to 6,000 pounds when equipped with the towing package. 

Additionally, the latest 4Runner is as capable of tackling off-road conditions as previous generations. Its 4WD system features Toyota’s Active Traction Control, along with an electronic two-speed transfer case that offers both high and low ranges. 

If you want even more off-road capability, the TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and the Trailhunter trims have an electronically controlled locking rear differential. These also offer downhill assist control and a multiterrain monitoring system. 

Design and Comfort

The 4Runner comes standard with two rows of seats and room for up to five people. However, some trims offer a third row if you want room for up to seven. 

Interior Features and Innovations

The entry-level 4Runner comes with manually adjustable front seats and cloth upholstery. Higher trims offer power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, and driver’s seat memory settings. 

Exterior Design Enhancements

The 2025 4Runner has a wider track than the previous generation and an extended wheelbase. The TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trailhunter trims feature wider fender flares to give them a more rugged look, as well as larger 33-inch all-terrain tires. 

Cargo Space and Flexibility

The 2025 4Runner Hybrid has a slightly smaller cargo area than the gas model. Behind the second row, you’ll have 42.6 cubic feet of space, compared to 48.4 cubic feet in the gas model. Folding down the rear seat expands the cargo space to 82.6 cubic feet. 

Infotainment and Connectivity

The 2025 4Runner’s new and improved technology features include a larger touch screen and digital key. The entry-level SR5 comes with an 8-inch touch screen loaded with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The TRD Sport adds a fully digital instrument panel, wireless charging, and two household-style power outlets. 

The TRD Sport Premium and above upgrade to a 14-inch touch screen and add a 14-speaker JBL stereo system. If you pick the Platinum trim, you’ll get Toyota’s digital smartphone key and a head-up display. 

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Every 2025 4Runner comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, a comprehensive suite of standard and available advanced driver aids designed to keep you and your passengers safe on the road. Standard driver aids include:

•  Pre-collision system with pedestrian detection
• Lane departure alert with steering assist
• Lane tracing assist
• Automatic high-beam headlights
• Dynamic radar cruise control
•  Road sign assist
• Proactive Driving Assist
