2023 Toyota BZ4X Range and Charging Time

Toyota has brought out a new all-electric compact crossover that’s affordable and offers plenty of capabilities for day-to-day driving. The 2023 Toyota BZ4X is a great choice if you need a vehicle that’s equally at home maneuvering around busy city roads as it is whizzing along at highway speeds.

Two of the things most electric vehicle (EV) buyers want to know about are the battery’s driving range and its charging time. BZ4X Engine and Performance

There are two powertrain setups on offer in the BZ4X. If you’re an EV driver who spends most of your time in the city, you’ll probably find the front-wheel-drive setup more than adequate for your needs. It puts out 201 horsepower with a single motor and a battery pack. Those of you who prefer a little more power for highway driving or challenging weather conditions should look to the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version of the BZ4X. Toyota equips these vehicles with a second motor, boosting the output to 214 horsepower.

The BZ4X features regenerative braking, which makes your crossover even more efficient. When you brake, the power produced by the motor is stored for future use, which helps to lengthen your battery’s life. There are also several driving modes to help you cope with different conditions, including Normal, Eco, Snow, and Boost.

The battery is equipped with an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty, whichever comes first. However, EV batteries will typically last longer than this, as long as you stick to the recommended maintenance.

Toyota BZ4X Battery Range and Charging

If you want a BZ4X with the best driving range, you should pick one of the front-wheel-drive (FWD) models. An FWD BZ4X can achieve up to 252 miles on a full battery charge compared to a maximum of 228 miles for AWD. There are slight variations in the driving range depending on the trim level you choose. For instance, the XLE trim has slightly better numbers at 252 miles for FWD and 228 miles for AWD compared to the Limited trim’s 242 miles and 222 miles, respectively.

When it comes to charging your BZ4X, you can get a full charge using a Level 2 charger in about nine hours. Level 2 chargers are also known as 240-volt outlets, and you can install them at your home or find them at public charging sites. A Level 1 charger, which is a standard household power outlet, will take a little over 30 hours to charge your battery. This isn’t a practical option for most people unless you don’t use your BZ4X over the weekend. If you use a DC fast charger, you can add an 80% charge in as little as 20 minutes.

BZ4X Interior Features

Inside the cabin, the BZ4X provides space for five passengers. Both rows offer enough legroom to accommodate adult passengers on long or short drives. There’s also equipment in the rear row to let you install booster seats. If you feel like you’d prefer more headroom or legroom in the second row, you may want to check out the RAV4, an EV with slightly larger dimensions in the cabin than the BZ4X.

The BZ4X has a comfortable and upscale cabin in its base trim. You can add some luxury features to make your time in this crossover even more enjoyable, including a heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, and low-level ambient lighting. The availability of these upgrades will depend on the trim you choose.

Behind the second row, the BZ4X’s cargo area measures just over 38 cubic feet. This should provide your family with enough space for several bags for a weekend trip out of town. It’s also more than enough room for a large load of groceries. In case you need to shift bulkier items, you can fold down the second row to open up 56.1 cubic feet of space.

BZ4X Infotainment and Safety Tech

This Toyota’s infotainment system is impressive, offering a large 12.3-inch touch screen and six-speaker stereo in its base setup. You also get a range of connectivity options, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and five USB ports. Wireless device charging also comes standard, meaning you can keep your phone or other electronic devices fully charged while you’re on the go. The only optional upgrade is a premium nine-speaker stereo to improve the audio when you’re listening to your favorite music or podcasts.

A long list of safety features is also included in the base BZ4X. You’ll benefit from pre-collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic brake assist. When you’re driving on the highway, you’ll be supported by the lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, and lane trace-assist features. The automatic high-beam headlights help ensure good visibility in all weather conditions, while traction control can help you tackle difficult conditions on- or off-road. You can add a surround-view parking camera for additional assistance when you’re maneuvering into a tight spot.

Pricing and Trims for the Toyota BZ4X

You can choose from two trims in the BZ4X: XLE and Limited. The XLE trim has an MSRP of $42,000 and is the one to go for if you want the best driving range. For a few extra upgrades, the Limited trim is worth considering. It benefits from a heated steering wheel, a parking camera, ambient interior lighting, and a power liftgate. One of the upgrade packages available in the Limited trim adds heated rear seats and a foot and leg warmer for front-seat passengers.

As you can see, the Toyota BZ4X is a great choice if you’re looking for an affordable EV with a good driving range. Its base setup offers plenty of upscale features for most drivers, but you can add some additional luxuries if you prefer.
